Hurricane Sandy

October 31st, 2012

The Storm Sandy has been very destructive, many sections of New York City were flooded and subways, Laguardia airport and the Holland Tunnel are still flooded! Even many parts of New Jersey are still flooded like Hoboken and Jersey City and some towns along the shore. The Jersey Shore has had the most damage, most of the boardwalks are washed up on the beach and streets or in the ocean. The water from the Atlantic Ocean has come ashore and destroyed houses and caused extensive salt water damage. Over 6 million homes have no power, especially any town south of NYC. There is almost no gasoline left, very long lines of 2 hours or more, at this rate they will all be empty by tomorrow. My house has no power still. The power company said it may take over 2 weeks or a month to fix all the poles and thousands of miles of power lines that have been knocked down by the high winds! The entire power grid must be rebuilt. Driving around the roads are like a maze, every other street is blocked by down wires or trees. People are driving like maniacs with no place to go and it’s rare to find a working street light! I’m expecting my power to come back on in a day or two hopefully. Luckily I did not get any flood water, as I am high above the lower lying areas and did not experience much rain but very high winds, things are bad for the whole state, but I’m great! Halloween has been cancelled, there is no way to get to New York city or anywhere to celebrate. And because there is very little power, there will be no trick or treating or any costume parties this year. If I get power back on any time soon, I am happy.
